It is such a privilege to see our seniors cross the stage at graduation after working so incredibly hard for 12 years. So many of our students have very difficult issues in their lives. One of my favorite opportunities as a board member is high school graduation. What do you enjoy most about being on the School Board? This gets in the way of us creating the best environment for our students to learn and our community to grow. It is difficult in today’s society to bring people back to the messaging I delivered or intended to deliver. When people decide their perception is my truth, they stop listening. The words I write or speak do not always mean the same thing to the people listening. Within our boundaries of local control, we create policies and in turn ask our Superintendent and her Cabinet to create the steps of success for our next contributing citizens by following the policies. Our Board of Directors is a Policy Governance, which means that we create the big picture (policies). What role does the School Board play in managing the district? It is our job as a school system to meet students where they are and provide them the support, the tools, the skills, and encouragement they need to be successful in life! I want our students to remember that they are capable, that they matter, and that they are the future of our community who will need to use their knowledge for good. Our educational experience shapes who we will become as adults. What do you see as the biggest priority for the district right now? I hope to continue to improve educational resources for all the students in our community through my service as a board member. Some have a great deal of educational resources, some do not. Our students are born into their own unique environment. Why did you run for School Board?Įach one of us comes with our own story.
